Emergency Care Provider (ECP)

ECP 130  Emergency Medical Technician  (5 Credits)  
The purpose of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course is to provide students with an academic and working knowledge to deliver basic life support care to critically ill or injured patients, preparing students to take the NREMT exam and apply for Montana EMT licensure (refer to Administrative Rules of Montana 24.156.2720). The course provides the basic concepts of emergency care which are needed to function as an EMT. EMTs learn to manage an airway using artificial devices, assess the severity of illness or injury, manage wounds and bleeding, immobilize fractures, perform CPR, utilize an automated defibrillator, assist with the administration of some medications, and a host of other procedures. This course involves classroom and clinical experience and may be helpful for other healthcare fields. Course requires participation in clinical rotations. Students must meet the health and safety requirements of the participating clinical facility, including required immunizations and background check.

ECP 133  Advanced EMT  (5 Credits)  
The focus of study in Advanced Emergency Medical Technician will provide the student knowledge and skills needed to apply basic and limited advanced emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response and perform interventions with the basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance.
